POTASSIUM CHLORIDE

POTASSIUM CHLORIDE is required for many functions especially for maintaining the rhythm of heart. It is used in the prevention and treatment of hypokalemia. Low level of potassium usually arises after a long term illness with vomiting or diarrhea and diabetic ketoacidosis. It plays an important role in the Krebs cycle which is body’s main energy production system. It is also essential for muscle strength and formation of glycogen. Moreover, alpha-ketoglutaric acid combines with ammonia produced by muscle activity which generates glutamine that acts as an energy fuel. Deficiency of potassium gives rise to weakness, problems related to heart rhythm and fatigue.
