CHLORAMPHENICOL BASE
Chloramphenicol base is produced by the hydrolysis of dichloroacetamide of chloramphenicol and is a degradation product commonly generated while commercial chloramphenicol production. It has no antibiotic activity but plays an important role for the synthesis of new generation antibiotics notably thiamphenicol and experimental analogues, bromamphenicol and methamphenicol.
